Hill City

Population: 1008

Known as the “Heart of the Hills” this is the oldest town in Pennington County still in existence.  The town then briefly went through a “tin” era which was soon replaced by the railroad industry, timber and tourism.  With the railroad history the Black Hills Central Railroad brought in a passenger trail in 1957 known as the 1880 train due to it being reminiscent of one from the 1880s.  The 1880 Train departs from both Hill City and Keystone and runs May through December.
