Spearfish is originally known as Queen City because the town is surrounded by three peaks that look like a queen’s tiara. Those three peaks are known as Spearfish Mountain, Crow Peak and Lookout Mountain. These three peaks add to the beauty of Spearfish and provide excellent trail opportunities.
Nestled in Spearfish is one of the oldest operating hatcheries which was established in 1896, the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives. A great attraction for families of all ages, this hatchery has plenty of historical gems, hiking trails and a great view of the hatchery from below ground that kids will love.
